Registration Opening Friday, March 29, 2024

Dear Families,

For over 45 years, the Parks & Recreation Department has offered exceptional programming that promotes fun through a wide variety of activities designed to enrich your child's summer experience: through programs such as sporting activities, swimming and swim lessons, day camps, hobbies, fitness options, and cultural, historical and special events. The 2024 summer camp will run from July 1 to August 9, and will have expanded afternoon opportunities. There will also be offerings that will run through the Labor Day Weekend.

Tawasentha Park has wide-ranging and expanding recreational opportunities such as tennis and pickleball courts, basketball and volleyball courts, playgrounds, picnicking facilities, pavilions and the new outdoor adult exercise area. The Park has an extensive hiking system with a bridge that crosses the Normans Kill and links to trails in the Winter Recreation Area.

Tawasentha Park’s pool is scheduled to open, weather permitting, on Saturday, June 15, with its pool house, facilities, lockers, private showers, free Wi-Fi, and cabana. Late last summer, we opened the new splash pad for toddlers. Please pick-up a free vehicle sticker for Tawasentha Park and the Transfer Station by bringing your vehicle registration and proof of Town residence to the Parks & Recreation office, Town Clerk, or Transfer Station.

Tawasentha Park is the home of the recently renovated Guilderland Performing Arts Center with terraced platform seating, new patio dance area, and improved sound and lighting. The 2024 summer season takes place on Thursday evenings at 7:30pm, and runs from June 20 to August 15. Performances are free and open to all!

There are now two dog parks at Nott Road Park and behind EMS Station 1 in Westmere. Later this year, we will add a third Dog Park, along with pickleball courts and an additional playground feature at Volunteer Firefighters Memorial Park. Other planned improvements include a playground at DiCaprio Park, Nott Road Park, and a playground upgrade at Fort Hunter Park. As things develop, more details will be shared on the Parks & Recreation webpage. You can also enjoy McKownville Park, and Fred Abele Park where a new playground, upgraded ball field, and a new bathroom were just installed and a resurfaced basketball court.

Later this year, the Town is scheduled to accept dedication of its newest park, Kaikout Kill Park, a new 24.59-acre park at the former Hiawatha Trails golf course with new hiking trails, picnicking areas and a wildlife viewing area near the pond.

The Town partners with local youth organizations to provide recreational and sporting activities at Town parks including DiCaprio Park (soccer and lacrosse); Keenholts Park (baseball and softball); and Nott Road Park (soccer, lacrosse, cricket, softball, football, and dog park).

Western Turnpike Golf Course, a beautiful 27-hole golf course with practice facilities, a restaurant and banquet services, had a very successful 2023 season. If you are interested in becoming a member, joining a league, or scheduling an outing for the 2024 season, please visit the website or call the Pro Shop at (518) 456-0786. The Hedge Bistro is also open for dining at the clubhouse.

The Town is committed to enhancing and creating new opportunities and programs for our residents. We invite your comments and suggestions on ways to improve your experiences in our park system. We hope that you enjoy this summer season, and we encourage you to visit and enjoy your Town parks.
